certain je ne sais quoi...everything

they touch will glow with a pure

sense of style and signature.

Mireio is such a place where delightful

things are created. Your soul just feels

happy looking at all the beautiful colors 

and designs...from handmade candles,

delightfully scented sachets, and the

cutest handmade fabric acorns filled

with lavender.

It's a wonderful place to find

beautiful and luxurious gifts for

someone special or treat yourself

to a little bliss for being good.

Any reason is a good reason

to bring some Mireio home. 

The creative, sweet, and talented person

behind this fabulous shop is name Wende. 

We'd met on Twitter and became instant

friends over our love of all things chocolate.

...and of course I became a fan of Wende's

gorgeous shop. I would check out her 

new listings and daydream about all those

lovely floral pillows and scented candles.

I could only imagine how heavenly her

studio would smell like from all of these

wonderful creations. It's probably like

living in a zen garden filled with lotus

flowers, bees, and hummingbirds.

A part of me thought that Wende could be related

to Martha Stewart...and I'm sure if we did a

genealogy test, they might be distant cousins. :)

I wanted to know more about this creative

lady and her special warm spirit. So I

interviewed Wende to find out a little bit

more about her and her lovely Etsy shop. 

 

~Interview~

1. When did you start creating or felt

inspired to do so?

I've been creating most of my life. But

I started Mireio a few years back out

of my complete love of vintage. I found

I was buying more and more fabric and

really wanted to MAKE. Before I knew

it, I was creating items for friends and

my home and one thing led to another.

2. How do you start your designs or what

sparks your artistic ideas?

I find inspiration just about everywhere

I look! For decor items, everything starts

with fabric. A vintage textile will pretty

much tell you what it wants to be. With

candles, I create fragrances based on

experiences and scent memories---I think

we all have "smells" that take us places,

and I work to create candles that are

evocative. And I look at each vintage

glass and decide what fragrance would

work best.

 3. What do you love about creating things

with your own hands?

There is something about that, right? I love

knowing that I made something beautiful.

And then when someone buys that item

and loves it, it's an utter joy to know

something I created is making their

home/life more enjoyable. Such a thrill!

 4. People love seeing other artist's studio

space...Do you have a picture or

description of your "creative space"?

This makes me laugh--I have this adorable

house on the Coast of Oregon. It's really

something special, you'd think my studio

would be too! But my family jokes that my

studio is where furniture goes to die. It's an

utter mismatch of items. I'm ever the recycler,

so I'm always finding ways to reuse items we

no longer want in other spaces. Plus, it's

functional. And you can't beat that!

5. What learning lessons do you have to share

with other artists?

Be true to yourself. Lots of people will tell

you, "if you just did this..." But I find it's

best to follow my own muse. I trust that!

My husband and child are always saying,

"Oh, that's so MIREIO!" And it's equally

important to know what's not you. Be

yourself, because YOU'RE PERFECT

just the way you are!
